What Information does a Pet Sitter Need Before my Trip?

This can vary greatly - but we’re happy to share what WE ask of all our clients and pets in our care.

We use an app called Time To Pet - the app is under the DaySmart umbrella - which is a well known veterinary and pet care software company. This software helps us streamline our onboarding process and make sure we have answers to all the questions we need to care for your pet.

Each client (human) will have a profile linked to an email address. You’ll fill in your address, contact info, and emergency contact info (If we cannot get a hold of you, who should we contact?). This can be a family member, or a neighbor. In a perfect world, it would be someone who ISN’T traveling with you.

Each of your pets will have their OWN profile. We’ll ask about:

  1. Age

  2. Vaccination status (PLEASE NOTE: vaccines are NOT mandatory for us. Since we are not mixing households, this is more just for our knowledge.)

  3. Location of litter boxes / leashes / harnesses / emergency evacuation bags and crates

  4. Medications and dosages (we offer oral meds, injectable meds, and sub-q fluid administration)

  5. Feeding instructions and where the food is kept

  6. Primary Vet Information (including clinic name and doctor most familiar with your pet)

Some extra things we ask about (PLEASE NOTE: As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases):

  1. Your travel itinerary. Are you flying? Driving? Domestic or international? This is important for us to know - we can keep an eye on flights, or severe weather, and determine if your pet may need care longer if you get stuck somewhere.

  2. EMERGENCY - If for some reason we cannot get a hold of you, how much do you authorize us to spend to start treatment (with owner reimbursement to Less Stress Services). We have many clients that travel internationally, or cruise with days at sea with no reception - we will do what we believe is in the best interest of the pet, within your given amount.

  3. Keys - We offer several entry options - you can buy a lock box for us to use (we highly recommend Master Lock Key Lock Box for House Keys – Outdoor Portable Combination Lockbox with Resettable 4 Digit Code). You can also hide a key on your property (often clients use Hide A Key in Plain Sight in a Real Looking Rock/Stone, Holds Standard Sized Spare Keys, or something similar). We also have clients who give us a 4 digit code for their front door, or their garage code to gain access. We HIGHLY recommend having 2 points of entry.

All of our care plans are tailored to our clients and pets - as we work with more clients, our questions may evolve, and we may add more questions to our portal. All clients are notified when new questions need to be answered, and if they are mandatory for bookings.
