Why In-Home Pet Sitting Is Better Than Boarding
It’s one of the greatest debates we hear of in our field…
“Why should I hire you guys, when my dog loves her doggy daycare?”
It’s simple - your pet gets to stay in their home. While your pet may enjoy their doggy daycare or boarding facility, it’s not home. This can cause stress that most human parents don’t even sense in their pet. Things like acting shy when they first get there, excessive panting, or possibly hiding behind chairs/toys in the play room. Pets thrive on consistent care routines and familiar surroundings.
Another reason we hear often is contracting illnesses. While boarding facilities require vaccines, your pet can still get sick. From kennel cough to Giardia, that’s a risk you take when you board your pet. Usually illness happens because of high density play time - lots of panting and breathing with multiple dogs in the area, and sharing toys that can cause transmission. Kennel cough can spread within hours of contact with an infected dog. The best part about hiring us is we don’t offer pack care, under any circumstances. We work one on one with one household at a time. We don’t offer hikes or pack walks, ever.
Oftentimes, boarding is just that - boarding. Some facilities only take pets out for brief periods of time, usually a short walk or minimal play time. Keeping pets in kennels for extended periods can cause a number of physical issues, as well as behavioral issues. From arthritis and pressure sores caused by cement flooring, to constant crating causing behavioral and emotional issues in pets, they’re better off staying at home - where they are most comfortable.
